NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines Projects and Initiatives:

Here are some of the major projects and initiatives that the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines have been involved with as we promote mineral development in the north:

Aboriginal-Industry Forum
The Chamber of Mines, the Mining Association of Canada and the Prospectors and Developers Association, has been engaged with northern Aboriginal groups in an Industry/Aboriginal Forum in an effort to bring Aboriginal people and the mineral industry closer together. Representatives of the operating mines and several Aboriginal governments began discussion in January 2009 and have followed it up with a working group meeting in March 2009. Membership will be open to all Aboriginal groups and mining and exploration companies as they wish.

Analysis of the social and economic impacts of diamond mining in the Northwest Territories from 1991-2008.

Northern Regulatory Improvement Initiative 2008
Industry submission to the Northern Regulatory Improvement Initiative (2008), the government initiative to help streamline the regulatory system in the NWT and Nunavut.

The Geology of Yellowknife’s Highways: From Edzo to Tibbitt Lake
A new geological tour guide for the highways in and out of Yellowknife, from Rae-Edzo to Tibbitt Lake.

Species at Risk Legislation
Industry submission to the “NWT Species at Risk Act” (April 2009), a piece of legislation that will dictate how the GNWT can protect endangered species.

Seasonal Overland Route Study - Conwoyto Lake Winter Road
Helped coordinate the “Seasonal Overland Route Study” (2008), a road that could replace a section of the winter road to the diamond mines,
